Event Speakers

  • Joshua Davis

Joshua Davis, Owner of Hayden Island Canvas

Josh started working at Hayden Island Canvas in 2004. What initially started as a part time helper job, became a full-blown career that he jumped in headfirst after only a year at the shop. He took over ownership of the shop in January 2020 and after surviving a rough first year, was able to bring many of the changes and visions he had for his already great projects to the next level.

  • Justin Jones

Justin Jones, Founder & CEO of SewLong

Justin grew up in the sewing trade and works hands-on with his team to build premium marine wake boat covers. Blending craftsmanship and innovation, he combines CAD, manufacturing, and real-world boating experience to create products that fit right and last. He partners closely with leading wake boat brands to develop covers that match the quality and performance of the boats they protect.

  • Derek Newcombe

Derek Newcombe, MFC, Owner and Principal Fabricator of Salty Buoy Marine Canvas

Derek Newcombe bridges the gap between technical design and maritime craftsmanship. Before diving into the marine industry, Derek spent years in mechanical engineering, collaborating with international teams to develop engine and vehicle technology across North America, Europe, and Australia.

Based in Vancouver, BC, he now applies that experience in systems design and product development to the world of custom canvas. By integrating 3D modeling and digital workflows into his fabrication process, Derek focuses on the "how" and "why" behind every stitch. He is passionate about sharing how an engineering-led approach to problem-solving and testing can elevate craftsmanship and ensure the successful delivery of complex marine projects.
