2017 Student Design Challenge Winners: Awnings and Canopies

First place: “Eternal Sailboat” by Gabriel Ramon Galeano Carcamo.

The Professional Awning Manufacturers Association (PAMA), a division of ATA, announced the winners of the 2017 Awning and Canopy Student Design Challenge at IFAI Expo in New Orleans on Sept. 28.

First Place: Gabriel Ramon Galeano Carcamo, from Anhalt University in Germany, won the top prize for his project “Eternal Sailboat,” a retractable shading structure.

Second Place: Rami Dalaq from the University of Kansas, with his project “Peacock Folding Canopy.”

Students were challenged to design an awning (fixed or retractable), canopy or tension canopy for a public or commercial space. ATA sponsors four different Student Design Challenges for students pursuing degrees in the industry, in these categories: Advanced Textiles, Awnings and Canopies, Fabric Graphics and Fabric Structures.
