Birdair to top $19 million Florida parking garage

Birdair Inc., Buffalo, N.Y., has been chosen to both clad and top a new $19-million parking garage providing 609 parking spaces near the Pompano Fishing Pier in Pompano Beach, Fla. The structure will feature 16 sail-shaped façade canopies and 15 identical rooftop PTFE membrane units. The total surface area of membrane will be more than 27,000 square feet.

Graphene-coated fabrics detect dangerous gases

Scientists from the from the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) and Konkuk University in the Republic of Korea have developed wearable, graphene-coated fabrics that can detect dangerous gases present in the air, alerting the wearer by turning on an LED light. The researchers coated cotton and polyester yarn with a nanoglue called bovine serum albumin (BSA).
