India is second-largest textile exporter

Data released by the Apparel Export Promotion Council, the industry body for garment exporters, show that India is the number two textile exporter in the world, with estimated exports of $40 billion in 2013. China still leads the pack, with an estimated $274 billion in exports in 2013. Textiles are defined as fiber, yarn, fabric, made-ups and ready-made garments of cotton, silk, wool and synthetic yarns. More than 55 percent of global trade is in ready-made garments, where India ranked sixth in 2013, with exports of $16 billion.
