GMA Lobby Days Spring 2023
Now is the time to register for the 2023 GMA Spring Lobby Days taking place May 16-17, 2023 in Washington DC. Geosynthetic Materials Association (GMA) members will have the opportunity to meet with their congressional representatives and learn about how the election impacts the makeup of the 118th Congress. Visitors are welcome – check the registration page for details.
With the passage and funding of the Bi-Partisan Infrastructure Bill (BIL), our focus now moves to the reauthorization of the FAA, in particular the possibility of a Center of Excellence (CE) for Geosynthetic Sustainability Research. Several of the congressional offices last fall requested that we provide language for inclusion into this reauthorization. With that in mind, we have provided language that would create a center of excellence similar to those included in the BIL. Good attendance will ensure that we can visit as many congressional offices as possible to further promote the infrastructure benefits of geosynthetics and the inclusion of the CE.
Many Members of Congress are now advocating for our industry, in large part, due to GMA’s consistent lobbying efforts along with the support and involvement of GMA members. It is critical that GMA members continue to educate members of Congress about national issues affecting companies within their districts and states.
Plan to join us in these congressional conversations and register your intent to attend. We make every effort to schedule meetings with your individual congressional delegation, so to ensure that we provide a timely request, please register early and include your local district information that we can gain meetings specific to your locations.
Congressional office visits have returned to pre-pandemic access. We are now able once again to walk the halls of Congress, meet and mingle in the hallways and even visit the various dining facilities scattered around the House and Senate office buildings. Whitmer & Worrall (W&W) will arrange two styles of meeting options in hopes of reaching as many congressional offices as possible.
Meeting Options
Congressional Office Visit – as in years past where we could walk the halls of congress and visit offices with unlimited attendees, the offices have re-opened to visits yet some are limiting the numbers, so depending on the specifics of the office, we will be assigning attendees based on your congressional districts.
Reception/Lunch Invitations – based on our prior success with inviting members of Congress to join us for an extended reception/lunch (11:30a-2:00p), this will be our third reception. The setting allows for members to visit with us in a relaxed setting away from the confines of their offices while still allowing the representative to address our whole group.
