GMA Spring 2022 Lobby Day (Washington DC)

As we continue to deal with the implications of the pandemic, GMA is continuing efforts to maintain our influence with federal and state governments to position our industry for success. With the passage of the Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act (IIJA), our focus now moves to the appropriations of funding for the IIJA, in particular the possibility of a Center of Excellence for Geosynthetic Sustainability. This year’s lobby day will take place in Washington, DC. Due to today’s fluid nature of visitations, Whitmer & Worrall (W&W) will be setting up three styles of meeting options: 1) Congressional Office Visits; 2) Reception/Lunch Invitations; 3) Virtual Visits. Plan to join us in these congressional conversations and register your intent to attend as soon as possible so that we can start the requests to meet with the correct congressional offices.

While we are being successful in connecting virtually with individual congressional members during these ‘shelter in’ months, we will expand upon these successes during the 2022 Spring Lobby Day “fly-in”. Many members of Congress are now advocating for our industry, in large part, due to GMA’s lobbying efforts along with the support and involvement of GMA members. It is critical that GMA members continue to educate members of Congress about national issues affecting companies within their districts and states.

This year’s lobby day will take place in Washington, DC. Due to today’s fluid nature of visitations, Whitmer & Worrall (W&W) will be setting up three styles of meeting options in hopes of reaching as many congressional offices as possible;

  • Congressional Office Visit – unlike years past where we could walk the halls of congress and visit offices with unlimited attendees, the offices that are open to visits are limiting the numbers, so depending on the specifics of the office, we will be assigning attendees.
  • Reception/Lunch Invitations – we will be inviting members of Congress to join us during an extended reception/lunch (11:00a-3:00p). The setting will allow for members to address our whole group as well as providing provide areas for more direct conversations.
  • Virtual Visits – our base will be located at the conference room in the building at 1401 H St NW (Whitmer & Worrall offices). Several of the congressional offices are maintaining the virtual only meetings. We learned that our conference room live setting with our members present in one room and connecting to the congressional office, while virtual, enhanced the flow of conversation amongst the members. We will have conference rooms set up to allow multiple meetings to occur simultaneously.
